Every Stage of Life Deserves to be Remembered

As humans, there comes a time in life when we begin to shy away from moments in the spotlight. As a photographer, I like to break through that limiting idea.

When the opportunity to collaborate with an incredible group on a portrait experience for residents at The Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center presented itself through fellow photographer friend, Lori Prashker-Thomas of ShadowCatcher Photography LLC and non-profit I Picture Hope, I jumped right in.

Lori's called this initiative “Celebrating You,” after being inspired by another photographer's work in Texas, and she enlisted the help of several friends and associates, like Glam Trend Beauty Studio LLC, to make it magical.

Not Just a Photoshoot

This day wasn’t simply the action of taking pictures.

Lori's vision was to create space for people to feel seen and pampered.

For many of the residents, it had been years since they’d been in front of a camera. There were smiles, laughter, quiet moments of reflection and stories shared.

One resident shared that the experience made her feel like a "star".

And that right there? That was the whole point.

My Role

I joined the project as a creative collaborator, supporting the photography process, helping keep guests engaged, contributing styling elements, and assisting with lighting to shape each portrait.

It felt important to be part of something meaningful and making sure the experience flowed in a way that honored each person in front of the lens.

Perspective

Lori and I share a common perspective: that photography shouldn’t be limited to youth or milestone moments.

There’s a tendency to document the beginning of life...birthdays, graduations, weddings, but the later chapters often go by quietly, without attention or celebration.

Those chapters hold just as much depth, story, and identity, and deserve to be recorded.

Seeing residents step into the spotlight, though only for a brief moment, felt like it carried so much purpose.

...Because every person has a story worth remembering.

...Because celebration shouldn’t have an age limit.

Creating space for people to feel seen and valued... especially when those opportunities are rare... is something that matters at every stage of life.

Lori will make a return visit with the residents at Meadows to share the results of the day's activity. Each participant will receive a printed portrait from their session to display, commemorating their "model moment".

We often think of photographs as a way to hold onto the past.

But there's something to be said for what they do in the present.

Like.... instill a moment of confidence.

...embrace a sense of being seen.

They serve as a gentle reminder that your story matters at every age.

And those special moments are worth creating.
